Burot Beach, Calatagan, Batangas (2014)

Picture taken at around 11AM before we went home! :) (c)FayeHusena

What can be more exciting than an unplanned beach trip with your favorite people? We have been talking about going to different beaches but we never thought we will ended up going in one just a few weeks after.

This goes to my friend, who we celebrated her birthday in this beautiful place! :)

HOW TO GET THERE:
It is not easy to go somewhere not-so-far yet far enough to ask Google maps how to go that place. But we are thankful enough to have found blogs sharing different routes on how we can peacefully drive to Burot Beach in Calatagan, Batangas.

By Car (Private Vehicle)
1. Take the route going to Tagaytay (through SLEX - We took the Eton Exit)
2. Head straight to Nasugbu, making a turn to Lian-Calatagan
3. Arrive at Calatagan Proper - Municipal Hall
4. From there, you can ask locals on how to make your way to Burot Beach! :)

By Commute (Bus - Tricycle)
We brought our own car that's why I made some research on this through other blogs. You can do your own research just to make sure and get better details :)
1. Take a bus going to Calatagan Batangas. Bus fare is around 200 pesos - one way.
2. Drop off point will be at a terminal and public market. You will find a tricycle terminal that you can hire to take you to Burot Beach.

It is a bumpy and dusty road going from the gate to the Beach proper, so prepare yourselves! The road is not cemented and it is a kilometer far away so I suggest that you buy all your needs at the public market before making your way to the beach. There's a store in the beach area but expect the prices to be higher (double the price) than those that you can buy from the local market.

DAY 1
We arrived late in the afternoon since we left Manila at exactly 1:30pm. Perfect time to beach bum and watch the sunset with your loved one.(Travel time is approximately 3 to 4 hours. Parking for private vehicles are free of charge.)

Just note that if you are planning to go on a day trip, leave earlier so that you can enjoy the place. Rates are as follows: P60/head for day trip; P130/head for overnight stay.

I love how chill the beach is as we almost had it on our own, maybe because we went there on a Thursday. The manong guards there said that many tourists go there on weekends and it sometimes get a little crowded. We brought our own stuff like utensils and just bought a few that we need in the market and in the store found near the beach. You can rent a table or a nipa hut at around P200 to P300, ihawan for P100 with stand and P50 without stand and a tent for P300. There are no hotels or rooms to stay on, just enjoy the camping vibe! (There's no electricity in here so you better charge all your gadgets and bring some source of light you can use at night!)

Swimming time! Just to make it clear, this is not a white sand beach. The sand color is more of light yellow-brown or caramel. But the water is clean and clear! It is better to swim during high tide because I personally wasn't able to enjoy swimming on this beach. You have to walk farther just to get that enough height of water (waist-level) to swim into and along the way, there's an area where there are lots of shells and stones you need to walk across (don't go too far, as in far! There are sea urchins in some areas). What I like about this place is that they offer free use of water and they have public restrooms unlike other beach camping sites that you have to pay each container of water that you will be needing to take a bath.

At night, the best part is the bonfire! You can buy stack of woods good for 4 hours at P200 and also a torch light for P70. We gathered around the fire, drank some booze, shared stories, watched the stars and enjoyed the cool breeze of air and sound of the waves right before us. You can never have this kind of inuman-bonding in the metro. :) We slept in our own tents afterwards. (Don't forget to bring sapin, extra blankets and jackets because it might get too cold at night and early in the morning.)

Starfishes! (c)FayeHusena and (c)EmmaAustria
DAY 2
We had a lot of time to spare! So, during our second day we decided to take a short boat ride to some areas near Burot Beach. It costs P100/head, making a total of P400 since there were four of us. Manong bangkero brought us to three areas which he did not mention the names. The first one we went to was an empty mini Island of some sort, nothing to find there really but you can swim in the surrounding area. The second and third was full of starfishes! As you can see in the picture above, our friend made a heart shape out of the starfishes for her girlfriend, the birthday girl! There were so many but the manong said there were a lot more plenty before but some tourists take them out of the water and bring them home :(

The fun part of the boat ride is that we were able to swim in the farther part of the ocean without effort! We enjoyed it but I still had to wear my life vest because I don't know how to swim :)) Haha!

All in all, this is a good beach to go to if you want to go somewhere near and less gastos since you just have to bring your own stuff. I hope many can visit this place while it is still accessible to the public! (They say this is a private Island owned already by SM's Henry Sy.)

Plan now and enjoy your own Burot Beach Trip!! :)

Eating some sweets after eating Lunch at Leslie's :)

Note: We wrapped it all up on our way home by eating lunch at Leslie's in Tagaytay! Bulalo for the win!! Thanks to Herman Canlas and Emma Austria (our birthday girl) for inviting me and my boyfriend, Patrick Ruiz. :)
